August 16, 2016 by Susan Jefferson Pizzelles originated in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The original pizzelles were flavored with anise, but the recipe has evolved to adapt to more modern tastes. Ours are a smaller version of the original cookie flavored with vanilla.
